Today's challenge involved using a timer to only spend 5 minutes on each sketch.<br />
<br />
We were to continue using our fingers and a card.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3wlRBA-CVqqwvcsw6jneVsWc70_csKWUjpl9KYoTKF_fFZpDqM1xnzwBgtcJdx_fc7pEvVbK-r9CQo3wrUiGnzSQZlhUJ85t60qw1Mewp4KRAf2NONgl5aYjfsooUTNUtQqScHZyM-Iwx/s1600/day+4+5in5+no1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3wlRBA-CVqqwvcsw6jneVsWc70_csKWUjpl9KYoTKF_fFZpDqM1xnzwBgtcJdx_fc7pEvVbK-r9CQo3wrUiGnzSQZlhUJ85t60qw1Mewp4KRAf2NONgl5aYjfsooUTNUtQqScHZyM-Iwx/s1600/day+4+5in5+no1.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
I began with an eye, I really need to get a couple of pictures trying to draw from memory is hard. I am in no way a sketch artist.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb-tmToISwT2nXxzV971rI5mBF387wWClMtUbEhlhp49Uc9BzilvI31fczg9Bd_WokXNNGaRcYUitKfF5dQcyOCKo1Tvtfg6qzTla3bKBujGLTjZPAE8zAlnmjA6VgONh0wOAa55UKPNGs/s1600/day+4+5in5+no2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb-tmToISwT2nXxzV971rI5mBF387wWClMtUbEhlhp49Uc9BzilvI31fczg9Bd_WokXNNGaRcYUitKfF5dQcyOCKo1Tvtfg6qzTla3bKBujGLTjZPAE8zAlnmjA6VgONh0wOAa55UKPNGs/s1600/day+4+5in5+no2.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
No 2 A body, i did google body sketches and saw this one, although it looked simple, it was actually quite tricky and all too soon my 5 min were up. But you can see where it was headed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
No 3 A flower, trying to do a little sketch of a variety of things, these lily's are my Sister in laws favourite, and I would love to create something special for her in the near future! I am not happy with the "background" but ran out time.... (there is a theme here)<br />
<br />

No 4 Puppy Love, who doesn't love a puppy?? <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

No 5 Owl, one of my very good friends just loves owls, i was trying to create feathers, but kept bumping the ones I had already done, but you can tell what it is and of course the time ran out.....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Day 3 - landscape using card and fingers<br />
<br />
I am a little behind on my challenge but will catch up I am sure. It has been very hot here in Adelaide Australia since the New Year we have only had 1 day below 35C (98F) and one day was 44C (111F) <br />
<br />
I don't know about you but my brain stops working even with the aircon on....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhy17oALRZ8YWI8qFn0f8kVapopI_-Jn54cF-zkiEuJYLhd3VPX2TzJT7EsszhJcxtDTSeweOm7PZISYEn_AIm4H1iIxOuuCNhCfvDsNIwdx9JKMLZc2dW4kq-GGQ2HjuJexY3elgBTv5Ov/s1600/20150107_201333.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhy17oALRZ8YWI8qFn0f8kVapopI_-Jn54cF-zkiEuJYLhd3VPX2TzJT7EsszhJcxtDTSeweOm7PZISYEn_AIm4H1iIxOuuCNhCfvDsNIwdx9JKMLZc2dW4kq-GGQ2HjuJexY3elgBTv5Ov/s1600/20150107_201333.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
this was my first attempt, a jetty jutting out. I wasn't happy with the water, but quite liked my clouds..... and the jetty is woeful lol<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFxoQ-yWODH69TpQkVEbgRgzL5_ZtI18GQGWz62gfVvH6l7G1Bwb-0lVnIXJ9zkGPlEtKdNM0FIxGmGptnMYPlkqaSKFuioWfpxZ4OQVragiE_YZLCKbIJDjTrlnGOcvroGCewqg5Ax_UT/s1600/day+3+landscape+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFxoQ-yWODH69TpQkVEbgRgzL5_ZtI18GQGWz62gfVvH6l7G1Bwb-0lVnIXJ9zkGPlEtKdNM0FIxGmGptnMYPlkqaSKFuioWfpxZ4OQVragiE_YZLCKbIJDjTrlnGOcvroGCewqg5Ax_UT/s1600/day+3+landscape+2.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />I played a bit with the clouds more cumulus like, a horizon line and then water, I liked this water better (not perfect but better) <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvqmJqK6ZDIO7pkohJihbfG0E-l9G8kuxwvYdrYUM5fWB1GkA1Ld1B1EEgzTIEY-Ggstz6XaIwIf5SHd8aVTJH8pez-wSCB0JbIIu0khzRlSRpwrb3pd4BZrYyzg-gQSEXYGknmz-UUSFG/s1600/day+3+landscape+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvqmJqK6ZDIO7pkohJihbfG0E-l9G8kuxwvYdrYUM5fWB1GkA1Ld1B1EEgzTIEY-Ggstz6XaIwIf5SHd8aVTJH8pez-wSCB0JbIIu0khzRlSRpwrb3pd4BZrYyzg-gQSEXYGknmz-UUSFG/s1600/day+3+landscape+3.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I added a boat to define the water, would fire this piece but only have a small amount of dark powder to play with.<br />
<br />
Next time I am thinking of beginning with the boat then adding the clouds/water, would like to get the boat details "finer"<br />
<br />
this exercise was fun.<br />
<br />

Day 2- 2/1/15<br />
<br />
Day 2 challenge a tree using fingers and a business card.<br />
<br />
I saw a video uploaded https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10152845517659158<br />
<br />
so rather than sifting powder over the glass surface I placed small piles and moved it around with card and fingers<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-v7-TUszKI7s/VKZG1jbtmNI/AAAAAAAAN1I/5r-WP1PfKGs/s1600/20150102_145935.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-v7-TUszKI7s/VKZG1jbtmNI/AAAAAAAAN1I/5r-WP1PfKGs/s1600/20150102_145935.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
the first tree, although there are faults I quite like it, and will practice more soon.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Tv1JG2WsVBQ/VKZMB36kpmI/AAAAAAAAN2c/rFcB8vvlkws/s1600/20150102_152211.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Tv1JG2WsVBQ/VKZMB36kpmI/AAAAAAAAN2c/rFcB8vvlkws/s1600/20150102_152211.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is my second tree, inspired by poplar trees that grow near where i live.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_47aMHopzw8/VKZMB_cW9oI/AAAAAAAAN2c/-wv_LGWjA-g/s1600/20150102_151044.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_47aMHopzw8/VKZMB_cW9oI/AAAAAAAAN2c/-wv_LGWjA-g/s1600/20150102_151044.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Pine tree<br />
<br />
and finally Palm trees, I used to doodle palm trees on an island all the time, escapism I reckon.<br />
There would be 2 palms with a hammock suspended between them. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-K4jDUV43H9U/VKZMBwye4dI/AAAAAAAAN2c/RZW_0ohPtrk/s1600/20150102_160624.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-K4jDUV43H9U/VKZMBwye4dI/AAAAAAAAN2c/RZW_0ohPtrk/s1600/20150102_160624.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p3b0NNpr1K4/VKZG1nV_ijI/AAAAAAAAN1I/iYCzpVj-GsU/s1600/20150102_161313.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p3b0NNpr1K4/VKZG1nV_ijI/AAAAAAAAN1I/iYCzpVj-GsU/s1600/20150102_161313.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I really like working with the card it allowed sharper smoother lines.<br />
Looking forward to Day 3!<br />
;-)<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Day 1 1/1/15<br />
<br />
I had a very busy day so did my day 1 challenge on day2<br />
But thought I would still post as day1<br />
<br />
the challenge was to move the powder around with only my finger...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jAodVDEk2Rw/VKZG1nt7OVI/AAAAAAAAN1I/a0asRFQJ878/s1600/20150102_124636.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jAodVDEk2Rw/VKZG1nt7OVI/AAAAAAAAN1I/a0asRFQJ878/s1600/20150102_124636.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
I began with a tree, but not happy with it i reverted to my usual doodling of flowers, I found fine detail a challenge as my fingers are quite chunky. I also used the technique of sprinkling the surface with powder then moving it around.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_nYPxZ4o7yg/VKZG1g_UmXI/AAAAAAAAN1I/p079c_aC8rQ/s1600/20150102_130004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_nYPxZ4o7yg/VKZG1g_UmXI/AAAAAAAAN1I/p079c_aC8rQ/s1600/20150102_130004.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
Flower and leaves<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xhkRTbfHz9U/VKZG1tP2KkI/AAAAAAAAN1I/2yXN5uR-3PQ/s1600/20150102_130522.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xhkRTbfHz9U/VKZG1tP2KkI/AAAAAAAAN1I/2yXN5uR-3PQ/s1600/20150102_130522.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KvhZPt7VxIM/VKZG1n5OUgI/AAAAAAAAN1I/6k_z8hQK7e4/s1600/20150102_131546.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KvhZPt7VxIM/VKZG1n5OUgI/AAAAAAAAN1I/6k_z8hQK7e4/s1600/20150102_131546.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
tried adding some finer fiddly bits but fat fingers made it messy lol<br />
<br />
Overall I am happy with my work. Although not going to fire it.<br />

I have started this blog to record and share my journey in a 30 in 30days challenge.<br />
<br />
Kelly from<a href="http://modernancientglass.blogspot.com.au/" target="_blank"> Modern Ancient Glass</a> is setting the challenges and teaching us new things. She also has a facebook page <a href="https://www.facebook.com/Modernancient?fref=ts" target="_blank">modern ancient glass</a><br />

<b>Thanks for participating, it's going to be fun! <br />I'll be adding to this list over the next week or two, (please be patient with me, we have A LOT of folks participating and loads of questions!) I'll do my best to keep you posted, forgive my inability to make the list line up nicely on the document. grrrr....<br />Here is a list of some FAQ's about the <span class="text_exposed_show" style="display: inline;">Challenge:</span></b><span class="text_exposed_show" style="display: inline;"><br /><br />Q: <i>What is the 30 in 30 Challenge all about?</i><br />A: It's about building skills, developing new artistic habits, sharing ideas, and encouraging each other </span></div>
<div class="text_exposed_show" style="display: inline;">
<div style="margin-bottom: 4px; margin-top: 4px;">
while having a good time with fellow glass artists. Hopefully it will get you out of your comfort zone </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 4px; margin-top: 4px;">
and off to new things!<br />
<br />
Q: <i> When does the Challenge start?</i><br />
A: January 1, 2015.<br />
<br />
Q: <i>Is this a contest?</i><br />
A: No, it's a personal challenge to complete 30 Glass Powder Sgraffito Sketches in the month of January. </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 4px; margin-top: 4px;">
You are only competing with yourself, and you are the only one who will know if you've completed all </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 4px; margin-top: 4px;">
30 sketches.<br />
<br />
Q: I<i>s this a class?</i><br />
A: No. Again, it is a personal challenge to improve skills through practice and camaraderie. I will help </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 4px; margin-top: 4px;">
guide and encourage you through the challenge and share your work and comments through blog </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 4px; margin-top: 4px;">
posts.<br />
<br />
Q: <i> What if I can't do a glass sgraffito drawing every day? Will I be kicked out of the challenge?</i><br />
A: No, you won't be kicked out! lol. Ideally, it's good to get in the practice of doing a sketch every day, </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 4px; margin-top: 4px;">
but everyone has crazy schedules and it's not always possible. You can do as many or as few as you </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 4px; margin-top: 4px;">
like, on your own timeline. If you want to skip a few days you can do several on another day that's </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 4px; margin-top: 4px;">
fine! Participate as you are able and have fun with it. <br />
<br />
Q: <i>What materials do I need to participate?</i><br />
A: See the file under "Group Docs" for the list.<br />
<br />
Q: <i>Do I need to have a kiln? Do I have to fire all of my sketches?</i><br />
A: No, you don't need a kiln, and you don't have to fire anything unless you want to.<br />
<br />
Q: <i>Are you going to tell us what to make?</i><br />
A: Nope. I will give you some ideas and help guide you through the challenge, but you will decide what </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 4px; margin-top: 4px;">
you make and how you'll complete your sketches.<br />
<br />
Q: <i> How do I post my daily sketches?</i><br />
A: Each day I will post a blog with a link to add a photo of your work to my blog. This way you'll be able </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 4px; margin-top: 4px;">
to post your work and view other participants' work in one place. You'll be able to post one photo per </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 4px; margin-top: 4px;">
day. <br />
<br />
Q: <i>Can I post my work directly on the group page instead of to your blog?</i><br />
A: No. We have so many participants that posting individual photos would clog the group page in an </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 4px; margin-top: 4px;">
instant. Please do not post your photos directly to the group page. I'll provide directions for you to </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 4px; margin-top: 4px;">
post your photos before we begin the challenge.</div>
</div>
</div>
